Support services get boost

Support services in the South West will receive a funding boost of more than $820,000 to provide better care options and help the elderly stay in their homes for longer.

The joint Federal and State Government increase will fund services provided by the Home and Community Care program.

Capecare was among the 11 services in the region to receive funding from the program gaining more than $62,000 for home maintenance and $38,000 for a new car and equipment for gardening and services.

Capecare home care manager Jennifer Richards said the allocated funding would go towards equipment and services to help residents redesign their gardens.

She said Capecare would hire a home and garden maintenance staff member to help consumers develop and implement waterwise garden programs in their yards.

Forrest MHR Nola Marino said the funding would extend to support services including nursing, social support, respite care, domestic assistance, and transport.
