Member for Forrest Nola Marino has welcomed the early introduction of the dairy industry code of conduct.
The Australian dairy industry mandatory code of conduct will come into effect in January 2020, months ahead of schedule.
Mrs Marino said the aim of the mandatory code is to improve the contractual arrangements between dairy farmers and dairy processors, to provide clearer safeguards for how farmers are treated in the supply chain.
“Dairy is Australia’s third largest rural industry, with $4.3 billion farm gate production in 2017–18, a retail value of $6.8 billion and $3.4 billion worth of products exported,” Mrs Marino said.
This issue was discussed at a recent meeting with dairy farmers in the South West.
