PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes applauded

Western Australia’s five PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes received a standing ovation from members of parliament.

Olympic bobsledders Lucas Mata (Scarborough) and David Mari (Perth) joined Paralympic snowboarder Sean Pollard (Bunbury) and alpine skier Shaun Pianta (Collie) received a standing ovation from Members of Parliament on Wednesday, April 11.

Cross-country skier Jessica Yeaton (Perth) rounded out the Games’ Western Australian contingent.

In parliament, Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino MP congratulated Pollard for his determination and efforts during the games.

“I want to acknowledge the courage and resilience of the inspirational young South West athlete Sean Pollard,” she said.

“What a fantastic achievement and a great effort, seeing that he’d first seen snow only 30 months prior to that.

“What a wonderful testament to the courage and resilience of Sean Pollard.”
