Perth International Postal Centre set to close and head east

Australia Post is set to close its international mail and parcel sorting facility in Perth on October 27 and move operations to Sydney and Melbourne.

All inbound international freight and letters will be redirected to Sydney and Melbourne centres instead of being managed in Perth.  Outbound products will be processed at another site in Perth.

Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino is worried about the broader impact this will have in regional and remote WA.

“I am seriously concerned that this will increase delivery times for people and businesses in WA, particularly for those in regional and remote parts of the state,” Mrs Marino said.

“We’re being told that sending mail all the way from Perth to Sydney or Melbourne and back to Perth won’t cause any delays – this is just not logical.

“Many businesses right around WA rely on timely freight services to not only remain efficient but also to be internationally and domestically competitive,” She said. “I encourage individuals and businesses in the South West who are affected by this decision and/or see increased delivery times to please contact my office: nola.marino.mp@aph.gov.au,” Mrs Marino said.
