Nominations open for business gongs

Margaret River Chamber of Commerce is throwing the doors open to its annual business awards and will this year honour a stellar local business person through a new prize.

Planned last year and held until 2018 to give the push greater community engagement, this year’s celebration will honour the region’s business person of the year.

Chamber executive officer Rebecca Young said the award would “recognise an outstanding local business person who has shown great entrepreneurial spirit, leadership and direction”.

A trophy for the winner’s efforts would be sweetened with a $1500 cash prize and a $1000 advertising package with the AugustaMargaret River Times.

Other categories returning include the hallmark Business of the Year Award, presented by the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, to recognise one operator above many for their “contributions to the environment and community”.

A luxury dinner lakeside at Metricup’s Eight Willows Retreat will be held on August 29, emceed by Forrest MHR Nola Marino.

“The gala has been created by the chamber to showcase the best of Margaret River,” Ms Young said, “and will include a four-course dining extravaganza from different local chefs, service and desserts from the talented students at South Regional TAFE, music and performances directed by Creative Corner.”

Award nominations are now open via rebecca@mrcci.com.au or www.mrcci.com.au and close on June 28.
