VICTIMS of institutional child sexual abuse in the South West will be offered vital help after legislation to create the National Redress Scheme was introduced.

Forrest MP Nola Marino said the scheme would play an important role in acknowledging, supporting, and providing a monetary payment to people who experienced sexual abuse.

The scheme offers access to psychological counselling, a direct personal response, and a monetary payment, all funded by the institution responsible for the abuse.

The National Redress Scheme will begin on July 1, subject to the passage of legislation.
