Marino praises outgoing leaders

MEMBER for Forrest Nola Marino will remain Chief Government Whip despite the change of leadership in the Liberal Party.

Mrs Marino’s name wasn’t among the 43 signatures collected by Peter Dutton calling for a leadership spill against former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

She issued a statement on August 27 thanking Mr Turnbull for his dedicated service to Australia and the Liberal Party.

“Mr Turnbull has been a first-class Prime Minister,” she said.

“His achievements are long and varied, and he’ll be regarded as one of our best Prime Ministers. He’s supported significant development and investment in the South West during his time.”

Mrs Marino also thank outgoing Deputy Leader and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop.

She congratulated Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Deputy Liberal Leader Josh Frydenberg on being elected on Friday.

“I believe the Prime Minister will be great for the South West,” she said.

“We both started our political careers at the same time, we know each other well and I know Mr Morrison will make a fine Prime Minister.”
