The Federal Government’s commitment to Australian Marine Parks and healthier oceans takes another step with the opening of an $8.6 million round of Our Marine Parks Grants.
Federal member for Forrest Nola Marino said the new round of funding is open to a broad range of community groups, tourism operators, and the fishing industry to assist in developing projects to enhance marine environments across the South West network of Australian Marine Parks.
“I encourage people in the South West who are passionate about the conservation of our local marine parks – The South West Corner and Geographe Marine Parks, to bring forward their practical and innovative project ideas”, Ms Marino said.
Previous projects have successfully delivered new fishing technology to reduce bycatch, and supported tourism projects including the Busselton Jetty to enhance public understanding of marine environments.
Funding is now available for individual projects across the 58 Australian Marine Parks located within Commonwealth waters. The grants are between $30,000 and $500,000, that contribute to the ongoing protection and sustainable use of Australia’s unique marine environments.
Applications close 16 December 2021.
