I’m calling for one of the next Offshore Patrol Vessels to be named HMAS Bunbury and for its ceremonial home port to be the Port of Bunbury.
Bunbury has a rich history of Royal Australian Navy vessels bearing its name, it has been 16 years since the last vessel was decommissioned. With both previous vessels having significant maritime roles, during war and peace time operations. Both vessels fostered strong relationships with the City of Bunbury and the broader South West community.
The naming of HMAS Bunbury is warranted given the strategic importance of the Port of Bunbury to not only the local business community but it’s wider international trading partners.
We are calling on the Minister to enable this outcome.
