The Busselton Returned Services League (RSL) will receive a funding boost of $64,667 from the Federal Government to support local veterans and their families.
Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino MP said the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) Program assists ex-service organisations (ESO’s) across the country to deliver the highest quality services.
“This funding will help the Busselton RSL provide advocacy services for veterans to assist with claims and entitlements, and access to services such as rehabilitation and wellbeing programs,” Ms Marino said.
“This year has been tough for many and this grant will make a real difference to those on the ground, providing critical support and resources for our veterans.
“I would like to thank all ESOs that provide advocacy services to our veteran community in the South West.”
Team Leader for Busselton RSL Graeme Caddy said these funds will help with the costs of support staff, equipment and services that directly support veterans and their families.
“This region has a lot of towns and centres with no local advocacy services. We have an experienced and committed team of trained and in training advocates to support the wider Veterans community. This grant enables us to get the necessary administrative and logistical support to coordinate the advocacy activities across this region. We do not replace the role of the local ESO, rather we support them in their support of their local Veterans. While our team are largely volunteers, we have paid administration support and are working towards one or more paid full-time advocates with one aim being to attract younger people to the role. We also hope to expand the number of advocates within the region and support them in training and service delivery.
“We encourage anyone with an interest to contact us and we will introduce them to the world of military advocacy, the training regime and how we operate. With great government support such as this grant, we hope to have a much greater presence outside of Busselton so we can offer support to many more Veterans and their families.”
Busselton RSL are among 127 ex-service organisations (ESOs) sharing in $4.35 million through the 2021 round of the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) Program.
