Find out about your aged care options before you need them

Member for Forrest Nola Marino is encouraging people to plan ahead by visiting the new My Aged Care website.

The website provides older Australians, their families and carers information about aged care options before a crisis event triggers that need.

“Making inquiries about aged care, before it is needed urgently, makes a lot of sense,” Mrs Marino said.

“Older people want to live independently as long as possible. But when a health crisis or accident happens, they may suddenly find that they need help.

“They and their families are trying to find out about their aged care options, in a hurry, but they don’t know where to start, often at a stressful time.

“That’s why it’s a good idea for mature aged people to talk about their personal preferences and care options with their families or health professional.”

If you or someone you know might need support, start by visiting the My Aged Care website or calling the phone line. These provide information about services available in the local area, how to access them, costs and other information.

“My Aged Care is the starting point for older people to find out about services they can access,” Mrs Marino said.

“Services include home maintenance and modifications, help with household jobs like cleaning, assistance with transport, and nursing and personal care.

“The Australian Government wants all older Australians, their families and carers, to know about their aged care options.

“If you are finding it harder to do the things you used to do and feel you need a bit of support at home, find the help you need with My Aged Care.”
