Feds tip in $1.5m for foreshore upgrade

More than $1.5 million in Federal funding has been committed to the Busselton foreshore redevelopment project.

Malcolm Turnbull announced the funding boost during his visit to Busselton on Wednesday, and said the money – part of the Building Better Regions fund – would go towards renovation and development of the jetty precinct.

“It has got enormous opportunity in terms of activating tourism potential, and of course it is a big part of building the commercial and tourist opportunities in this region,” the Prime Minister said.

Forrest MHR Nola Marino welcomed the funding and lauded the redevelopment, which she said would help create a world-class waterfront destination.

“Busselton is one of the top tourist destinations in WA and this redevelopment will enhance the city’s natural beauty,” she said.

Ms Marino said the redevelopment would also support and encourage investment and other tourism activities which fostered economic growth.

While at the foreshore, Mr Turnbull – a railway enthusiast – saw the Busselton Jetty train and the historic Ballarat engine at the Busselton Visitor Centre.
