Dismay at stalled plan

Nationals deputy leader Bridget McKenzie says she is disappointed the Busselton-Margaret River Airport expansion has stalled, given millions have been pumped into the project.

The comments were made last week as State and Federal MPs went to the South West for the WA party’s Statewide conference.

Ms McKenzie came via the airport.

“We’ve put the money in but the State Labor Government has actually pulled their funding for the development of the terminal, which would see regional flights arrive,” she said.

“It’s really disappointing.” WA’s Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan has previously said the new terminal building will be built if an airline for direct interstate flights is secured or if Qantas agrees to locate its second training academy in Busselton.

Qantas is expected to make its decision by the end of the year.
