Centenary grants available

EXPRESSIONS of interest are now open to South West groups for funding through the Armistice Centenary Grants Program.

Forrest MHR Nola Marino said next year Australians would reflect on the 100th anniversary since the end of World War I and the funding could help commemorations of this important milestone.

“From a population of fewer than five million people, 416,809 men enlisted, of whom more than 60,000 were killed and 156,000 wounded or taken prisoner,” Ms Marino said. “Every year on Anzac Day we mark the anniversary of the day Australian Imperial Forces (AIF) landed on Gallipoli in Turkey.

“It is the day we honour the service and sacrifice of every Australian who served in World War I and all those who have subsequently served.” Applications open on November 11 and close on February 28.

Expressions of interest should be lodged with Ms Marino’s office prior to applications opening.
