The Member for Forrest Nola Marino has reconfirmed her commitment to seek federal funding to support the Busselton–Margaret River Regional Airport (BMRRA) development proposal.

“The expansion of the Busselton–Margaret River Regional Airport is essential for the long term development of the South West region, and I am determined to see federal investment underpin the international potential of this critical asset” Mrs Marino said.

“It is a truly regional project that has support from across the South West which will provide access to Asian markets for our great South West produce and tourism experiences.”

Last year the BMMRA received a $56 million cash injection from the Western Australian State Government and a $3.5 million commitment from the City of Busselton to expand the airport so it can provide direct interstate flights. The City of Busselton has also applied for $9.7 million in federal funding under the National Stronger Regions Fund Round 3.

“This airport has the potential to open up markets in Asia for our high quality food and wine, which enjoys an unrivalled reputation for quality and safety” Mrs Marino said. “It also creates future potential for direct flights for incoming tourists.”

“This is a critical project that will directly connect the South West to our biggest potential markets, and I will continue to push strongly for support from a Coalition Government to fulfil this potential.”
