Announcement seals the deal for ring road

STAGES two and three of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road will be completed after the Federal Government confirmed $560 million towards the project.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced the funding in Mandurah on Friday as part of $3.2 billion for new infrastructure in WA.

Forrest MHR Nola Marino said she had been working on getting the Bunbury Outer Ring Road up for many years.

“The BORR will be a massive boon to the South West,” she said.

“This will improve road safety and travelling time for people.

“The road will also facilitate the development of the Bunbury Port and South West industry.” Bunbury MLA Don Punch said the $560 million in funding came off the back of a lot of hard work with the Roads to Export Strategy.

“The announcement has come as a consequence of a lot of hard work and constructive discussions between the Premier, the Treasurer and the Minister for Transport, with the Commonwealth and the Prime Minister’s office,” he said.

“It shows what can come out of collaborative effort and the State Government, which is actually committed to working with the Commonwealth to achieve better outcomes for the community rather than scrapping all the time.

“I’m now looking forward to what comes out of the State Budget because this is partial funding for the Bunbury Outer Ring Road.” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said she welcomed the funding.

“The investments we are making will see Bunbury attain the necessary infrastructure befitting of a major regional centre,” she said.

“This latest Commonwealth funding allows us to finalise the planning, consultation and approvals and then get on with building the road.”
