The Member for Forrest Nola Marino has welcomed the signing of contracts worth almost $9.8 million between the Federal Government and the City of Busselton for the delivery of the expansion of the Busselton-Margaret River Regional Airport to enable international freight and passenger services.
Mrs Marino said the milestone marked and important day for the entire South West region.
“The Coalition has delivered on this critical piece of infrastructure, which will underpin the economic development of the Forrest electorate and the entire South West for decades to come” Mrs Marino said.
The Federal Government’s contribution to this project will build on the investment by the City of Busselton and State Government including –
- further widening, lengthening and strengthening of the runway from 2,400 metres to 2,520 metres to facilitate B737/A320 jet aircraft operations;
- development of additional aircraft parking bays;
- development of an General Aviation Precinct; and
- expansion of the new passenger terminal of at least 200m2 to facilitate provision for international passenger processing.
“The Government invests in local projects because we understand Australia is made of more than big infrastructure projects” Mrs Marino said. “I’m proud to have won this project for my local community and am proud to be seeing it through to fruition.”
This airport has the potential to open up markets in Asia for our high quality food and wine, and also creates future potential for direct flights for incoming tourists.”
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
