Frail, older people and younger disabled people in the South West will get access to more care so they can remain in their own homes as a result of a government funding increase, the Member for Forrest Nola Marino said today.
The Turnbull Government and the State Government will jointly boost funding for services provided by the Home and Community Care program (HACC) in the South West by over $820,000.
The funding is part of a $309 million commitment to the HACC Program across W to build on existing services, or to deliver new ones.
Mrs Marino said the funding would be shared by 11 services in the region.
“We know that older people in the South West prefer to stay in their own homes for as long as possible,” Mrs Marino said.
“This funding will give people in the South West access better aged care options in their homes and support services in their area.
“This includes services like nursing, social support, respite care, domestic assistance, and transport – without which many people would not be able to continue to live at home.”
The Turnbull Government will contribute $187.90 million to the program, with $121.71 million to be provided by the Western Australian Government.
The extra funding means that older people, as well as people with disability, will be able to receive the critical care they need while being able to maintain their independence and connection to the South West.
